Connecting beekeepers and farmers

Local farmers are keen to be aware of local bee keepers

If farmers grow oil seed rape and other crops, they may spray it before harvesting. They are, therefore, keen to alert local bee keepers to try to avoid any risks to bees.

The ‘BeeConnected’ website (https://beeconnected.org.uk/) provides one way of doing this – and the tool may therefore be of interest to people in and around the parish.

Farmers (and their contractors) can register on the website and then enter details of when and where they are spraying. A simple notification will then be sent to neighbouring beekeepers registered with the system.

Beekeepers can also register on the website and identify the position of hives via an easy-to-use mapping system. They will then receive notifications from registered farmers when they are planning to spray their crops at a proximity of up to 5km away.
