Increased supplies at Glebe Road’s ‘pop up’ shop

Peter Gray can help you avoid trips to supermarkets

Data from Public Health England has suggested that supermarkets are amongst the most common places where people catch Coronavirus.

So, Peter Gray’s pop-up shop (‘Glebe Road Supplies’) is a great alternative, helping villagers avoid travelling to the shops or going less often.

A wide range of fresh vegetables (including three items for £1.50 for some produce) is available from his shelving from 10.30am each day) as well as fruit, bread, milk and more.

Peter can also help with an increasingly wide range of meats.

Consultation about proposals for new houses at Greenway Lane

An opportunity to have your say …

Mapledean Projects, a subsidiary of Metis Homes, has acquired an interest in land at Greenway Lane and is formulating proposals for its development with ten new houses, including some affordable homes for local people.

The site was identified as a suitable location for new homes in the adopted South Downs Local Plan and the company is now seeking the community’s feedback on emerging details: an opportunity to make comments before a planning application is submitted.

Defibrillator now available

Temporary location in Kiln Lane until a High Street site is confirmed by the District Council

The team who have been arranging a defibrillator for the village are pleased to announce that it is installed and ready for use at 4 Kiln Lane, Buriton, GU31 5SG. This is a temporary location until a High Street site is confirmed by EHDC.

People are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the procedures for CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) and use of the defibrillator. Unfortunately due to lockdown and Covid restrictions the team cannot safely run courses in groups.

Mosaic poppy installed before Remembrance Day

Community project a step nearer to completion

As you may have read in the Petersfield Post, the project to provide a new commemorative feature in the village came a step nearer to completion in November with the installation of a special mosaic.

Inspired by teenager Josh Bailey and crafted by local sculptor Andy Cheese, the circular mosaic portrays a remembrance poppy framed by the words ‘Never Forgotten, Forever Grateful’.

Tai Chi sessions

The popular Tai Chi sessions are set to continue …

The popular Tai Chi sessions are set to continue outdoors until the end of September (weather permitting), Thursdays 12-1 pm on the Recreation Ground, and then plan to move inside into the Village Hall from October.

Tai Chi is a slow gentle movement that can create a calmer mental state, focusing inwards on breathing and body movement and away from the distractions of daily life. This focus naturally rebalances minds, relieving stress. It is often referred to as moving meditation.

Defibrillator – final fund-raising push

Give a donation to save a life – can you help?

The team who are arranging the provision of a defibrillator in the village were hoping to use the Village Show as an opportunity to raise the last bits of fund-raising required.

With a grant from the British Heart Foundation and other donations in the pipeline, the team are looking to raise a further £1,400 so as to be able to provide a weatherproof cabinet, connection to electricity supply and other requirements.

Apple pressing for the parish – watch this space

Do you grow apples, and always fancied getting some juice out of them – but never got around to it? Read more ...

A group of villagers are planning to organise collective apple-pressing days at harvest time, subject to covid restrictions.

The idea is: you bring your apples, you help pulp and press them, you take away your juice. No fee and no experience required. A fun activity for the kids too.

We’re still organising access to the kit we’ll need, and a suitable venue. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll keep you posted.

National Park urges people to avoid busy hotspots

Restraint, responsibility and respect to be observed in the South Downs

Although Government announcements state that there are now no restrictions on how far people can travel to get to the countryside, the South Downs National Park has issued guidance to try to influence behaviour.

The Park Authority is asking people to protect themselves, their families and local communities by avoiding busy hotspots, exploring quieter places, travelling by bike or walking, only parking in car parks and observing the three Rs of restraint, responsibility and respect.
