Buriton Farms

Farm Open Day

From 11am to 3pm - activities and fun for all parishioners, family and friends: farm animals, trailer rides, agricultural machinery and a Barbecue.

Lots of farm machinery will be on display, there will be explanations of work on the farm and family Trailer Rides to look at the animals in the fields.

There will also be a tasty barbecue, ice creams and opportunities to buy fresh beef straight from the farm.

Farm walk starts with a tipple

Almost 50 parishioners, family and friends enjoyed a fascinating and informative farm walk on Sunday 25th September thanks to farm manager Oliver Howe of Weston Farm.

The visitors were led along some farm paths which are not normally open to the public – but also enjoyed views from some of the new ‘Permissive Paths’ which Oliver has created.

Sheep rollers' turn over

Shearing on the Bray family's Nursted Farm in July brought an end to one of Buriton's more unusual social events: the annual sheep-rolling rota.

For the last few years a team of over twenty volunteers have taken turns to walk through some lovely countryside above the village to check on the welfare of local sheep.

With heavy fleeces it is quite easy for some of the ewes to get stuck on their backs, unable to stand up again – and, within hours, they can be dead.

Farm tea goes down well

Susan Shone put on a special spread for seniors from across the parish on mid-summer's day.

The special ‘farm tea’ was part of Buriton’s annual 'Down on our farms' programme of events, open days, walks and talks.

Transport was provided so that everybody could get to and from Bolinge Hill Farm easily – and a good time was had by all.

Annual bluebell walk is a real treat

About 70 parishioners, family and friends were treated to a delightful stroll along farm paths not normally open to the public - including a magnificent show of bluebells and some impressive Early Purple orchids.

Farm owner Susan Shone also provided a scrumptious afternoon tea back at Bolinge Hill farmhouse where visitors were able to wander around the gardens.

The event, on Sunday 1st May, was part of the “Down on Buriton’s Farms” initiative.
