Buriton Players help bring Chalk Pits to life

As part of the Parish Council's lottery-funded Chalk Pits project, an audio guide is being produced for schools across the area.

The educational resource will explain how the site was used as a chalk quarry and limeworks. As well as a professional narrator, a number of characters are being recorded - each describing different aspects of this local work.

And members of Buriton Players took a break from their rehearsals for their March production of 'Fools Steam Ahead' (*) to record some of the character roles.

Work to finalise the audio guide is still taking place but, in due course, it will be available as a CD and as an on-line download.

Some other educational information about the history of the Chalk Pits has already been published on-line for use by schools. Joint work with the Petersfield Museum has produced materials suitable for both geography and history lessons. Details are available via the Museum's website: http://www.petersfieldmuseum.co.uk/education/teachers-resource.php

*  Buriton Players' ?Fools Steam Ahead? will run for two nights only (22 and 23 March) in the village hall. Tickets are £10 each (£8.50 for concessions) - including supper. Early booking is advised to avoid disappointment as the shows always sell out. Telephone 01730 260177 to reserve tickets.
