More visits by clinics to schools may be possible
All health clinics in Ghana are obliged by Government to provide some (free) education to schools, particularly hand-washing, personal hygiene and (in some instances) sexually transmitted infections. But it is not clear whether every school in the Dominase area benefits from this scheme.
During a visit to Dominase early in February, meetings were held with a number of local clinics to begin to assess the scope and value of improvements.
A survey of Headteachers will be conducted to ascertain whether every school get visits from clinics; if so, how often (and from which clinic); if not, why not (and which clinics would be convenient); the frequency of the visits; and the subjects covered. If gaps and shortcomings are identified then ways of improving the situation can be considered.
But, as a first step, Buriton’s Village-to-Village Charity will aim to provide a Veronica Bucket (and associated materials) to each of the 25 schools to ensure that they all have improved hand-washing facilities and adequate equipment to hold regular hand-washing lessons: something that was important in Ghana long before the arrival of the Coronavirus.
