As well as the completion of another 70 family toilets, work is well under way on the latest block of toilets for another village school.
World Toilet Day was set up by the United Nations in 2013 to bring attention to global sanitation conditions - a topic often neglected and shrouded in taboos.
Today, 2.4 billion people are struggling to stay well, keep their children alive and work their way to a better future - all for the want of a toilet.
But over the last few years, Buriton has been playing its part and now hundreds of families in and around Dominase have their first ever household toilet; thanks to help provided from Buriton.
Work is also well underway on another block of school toilets at another school village.
These should reduce sickness levels at the school, boost attendances and allow girls to manage their periods with dignity and in private.
Other recent successes for the small Village-to-Village Group charity include:
- Completion of almost all the 71 family toilets that were commenced earlier in the year - with money for another 70 ready to go ?
- Our group of teachers have all completed their teacher-training courses and we have now identified another group of teachers 8 who we can support from now on
- Thanks to evidence about our local donations, we have won grants from the Waterloo Foundation, the De La Rue Charitable Trust and the Open Gate Trust to help us with our projects
- Plans are progressing for another inter-school reading competition, with heats and practices starting before Christmas and with the finals likely to be in March.
And the Group has also started exploring how we might be able to help provide another 2,000 reading books for school libraries in the first part of 2017.
