Villagers in Buriton's "adopted" communuity of Dominase, in Ghana, are seeing more and more improvements in the health of the population, particularly young children, as as result of Buriton's programme of sanitation projects.

During the course of 2013 the Buriton-based 'Village-to-Village' charity was able to help provide funding for about 80 families to get their first ever household toilet - the biggest programme in any single year so far.

In the first few weeks of 2014 the construction of dozens of family toilets is now underway, drawing upon the subsidies provided by the charity, and people are queuing for their chance to obtain this basic facility.

The families still do most of the hard work themselves and provide locally available materials for the walls of the toilet houses.

Money from Buriton pays for bags of cement, roofing sheets and vent pipes which would not otherwise be affordable - and pays a small wage to the skilled labourers ('masons') that have been trained as part of our programme.
