The ‘Re-Charge One’ application and the plans for ten new homes on Greenway Lane
The Parish Council has submitted a response to the planning application to develop a greenfield site near the Greenway Lane roundabout. The proposal contains up to 60 holiday lodges, a re-charge centre for electric vehicles and spaces for shops and cafes (with internal roads and about 125 parking spaces). Details are on the SDNPA website (https://planningpublicaccess.southdowns.gov.uk/online-applications/) with the reference SDNP/21/06431/FUL. The Parish Council’s submission can be found at the foot of this web-page.
The application to build ten new homes on Greenway Lane was considered by the SDNPA Planning Committee on 10 February – with a relatively unusual outcome. The site was approved for development in the Planning Authority’s Local Plan after the public inquiry in 2018. Since then the developers have been producing their designs and layouts etc – including attending a consultation event in the village last year (summarised here). When their proposals were considered at the recent SDNPA meeting the Parish Council and the Village Design Group both took the opportunity to speak. Following a detailed discussion, the Committee decided not to approve the planning application, but not to refuse it either. They decided to ask their planners and the developers to look at some things more closely so as to be sure that every opportunity has been explored. It is understood that the planning application will be considered again at a future meeting.
