Another successful Reading Competition in Dominase

Hundreds of children took part in the Buriton 'Village-to-Village' Group's 2016 inter-school challenge with the best 70 competing together for prizes and prestige recently.

All 13 Primary Schools took part in the event as part of an initiative inspired by Buriton's work with the Local Education Authority in the area.

Each school had selected its best reader, boy or girl, in each of their six age-based classes and these children were then all brought together to be tested in front of a special panel of judges in Dominase.

The prize winners (first, second and third in each of the age groups) received their awards in front of cheering crowds and there was also a prize for the best school.

The organisers believe that the initiative has helped to boost interest in improving reading standards amongst children, teachers and parents.

The competition was organised as part of Buriton's wider support for education in Dominase. Thousands of Supplementary Reading Books have been provided to schools in the area - and the Buriton-based charity is supporting a number of local teachers through teacher-training programmes.
