Light-hearted lyrics, memorable melodies and clever choreography helped ensure a memorable concert in St Mary's church on Sunday 20th October.

The popular Downland Singers returned to Buriton to perform songs from the hit parade, stage shows, films and comic operas - drawing inspiration from about 20 countries.

Musical numbers included songs from Britain and the USA, from France, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia as well as from Africa, Australia, South America and more ?

The Denmead-based group of singers had provided a special summer concert in Buriton in 2011 which featured everything from the Beatles and Lloyd Webber to Gilbert & Sullivan. And they were delighted to return to the village to raise money for good causes again.

A retiring collection raised almost £250 to help the church's lighting project and the village's work in Dominase in Ghana.

For Christmas, the Downland Singers are performing a ?Festive Fanfare? at Blendworth Church Centre, Blendworth Lane,PO8 0AA on Saturday 14th December. Tickets are £8 (£5 for under 16s) from Roger Rixon: 07738 240467.
