Much-needed water flows again thanks to kind donations

One of the first wells that Buriton had provided in Dominase had stopped working - but recent efforts have brought it back to life

The repairs were made possible thanks to generous funding from the estate of a donor to the Osiligi Charity which helps with clean water projects elsewhere in Africa: http://www.osiligi.org/clean-water-africa/

Constructed in 2006 the well had provided fresh drinking water for hundreds of villagers for about eight years - but it had gradually stopped working as water levels dropped and parts of the equipment failed.

Local engineers diagnosed the problems and identified a programme of repairs whilst Buriton's Village-to-Village team liaised with the Osiligi Charity to arrange funding.

Villagers in Dominase raised about £200 (a very large amount in such a poor community) in order to demonstrate their commitment to the UK donors.

The successful repairs involved increasing the depth of the well, installing new pipes and rods to reach the new water level and reinforcing the walls of the well with cement sleeves.

It is hoped that these repairs will last for a number of years and that the well will provide the community with fresh drinking water even if rainfall continues to be unreliable in the future.
