What the ? ?! Quiz Night

The antidote to ordinary quiz nights ? Saturday 22 November (7.30pm) - book soon

With the village hall being ‘out of action’ this year we have been very fortunate to find a new date for this popular charity Quiz Night – at the magnificent Tithe Barn, Ditcham (courtesy of Jeremy & Margaret Oates).

This splendid venue will provide a great backdrop for this highly entertaining evening, orchestrated as usual by Paul Martin.

Teacher-training project to help improve education in Dominase

As part of Buriton's Village-to-Village link with its sister community of Dominase in rural Ghana, a new teacher-training initiative has been launched.

The first 10 teachers have now been selected to benefit from this new project.

Our small charity now sponsors teachers through four-year training courses, to improve the quality of teaching and help children get a better education: a vital step in their path out of poverty.

Sponsored toddle raises over ?300 for good causes

Children, parents, helpers and friends of Buriton Nursery School took part in a 'Sponsored Toddle' on the village recreation ground in May, to raise money for school funds and for their friends in Africa.

The Nursery is an integral part of the village community and likes to get involved in as many village events and causes as possible – and the toddle was designed to help the community’s Village-to-Village link with Dominase in Ghana.

Another block of toilets at another village school

Money from Buriton has provided scores of children with somewhere safe and clean to go to the loo during school time - which, in turn, helps to boost attendances ?

Children in the outlying hamlet of Kakyereyansa, near to Dominase in the far north of the Central Region of Ghana, now have their first ever toilets.

Until now boys and girls, like most of their families at home, have had to squat in the bush around the village when they have wanted to go to the loo.

Prizes from Reading Competition presented at major Independence Day Ceremony

Buriton's charity 'Village-to-Village' group have successfully sponsored an inter-school Reading Competition in and around Dominase - with hundreds of children taking part.

Twelve primary schools took part in the competition during February 2014 - an initiative inspired by Buriton's work with the Local Education Authority in the area.

What the ? ?! Quiz Night POSTPONED TO SATURDAY 22nd NOVEMBER (at Ditcham Tithe Barn)

The antidote to ordinary quiz nights ?

This highly entertaining Quiz Night, with Quiz Master Paul Martin, sells out quite quickly (the last few years have completely sold out) – so please book your places early.

It’s only £5 per person with all money raised going towards improving living conditions in Buriton’s sister community of Dominase in rural Ghana.

?Back Home' raises ?170 for children far away

After her popular and inspirational talk in the village in February, award-winning author Michelle Magorian returned to Buriton to introduce a film adaptation of her book 'Back Home'.

The film is based on her touching book about a girl returning home to Britain after evacuation to America during the war and Michelle kindly gave a short talk at the beginning of the evening and autographed books and bookmarks at the end.

The film was shown as a Half Term holiday special in the village hall and appealed to children and adults alike.
