Extra hands welcomed
Volunteers from the South Downs National Park Authority and from Hampshire County Council’s Rights of Way Team are coming to Buriton on Monday 30 September – and they’d welcome a few extra pairs of hands.
Can you help?
They will be cutting back brambles and other growth which is gradually taking over the route of the Hangers Way footpath through our lovely ‘Links’ valley.
They will be bringing a number of people who are trained to operate brush-cutters and hedge-cutters - and they'll be bringing other tools, too.
They will be starting work from 10am – and they will probably continue into the afternoon.
Volunteers are welcomed at any time of day, for as long as they can manage.
Work is likely to start near the Hopkilns in Bones Lane and people are encouraged to wear appropriate (old) clothing, walking type boots, garden gloves and a thornproof jacket/gilet if available.
The organisers are hoping to provide some refreshments – but the National Park and County Council volunteers will be bringing their own lunches as they are aiming to stay until about 3pm.
Extra volunteers from Buriton are likely to be involved in raking and stacking the brash into heaps, either for a fire or to mulch down.
It is hoped that a few extra local people can help the volunteers get more work done and make the Long Distance path (which is also popular with many villagers) more attractive again.
