Team Hawaii are top bananas

Over 40 members of Buriton Tennis Club took part in their annual 'fancy dress' Davis Cup competition - dressed to represent teams from France, Hawaii, New Zealand and the USA.

The tournament took place over two full days in July and required almost 70 matches to decide the winners.  For much of the weekend there was very little between any of the teams but by the close Team Hawaii had emerged as worthy winners with a two point margin over France and New Zealand who tied for second place.

Compared to the 2012 tournament, when wet suits would have been the most suitable clothing for some of the matches, the weather was absolutely glorious with temperatures nudging 30C, little or no wind and the usual large helping of enthusiasm and enjoyment from those taking part and spectating.

Everyone thanked club coach Paul Evans profusely for organizing yet another successful event - they just seem to get better and better - and Edward Ditcham was presented with the Graham Scopes Trophy for all his sterling assistance in keeping an eagle-eye on the order of play and recording all the results as they came in.

Thanks too go to Mark and Julie Sinclair for providing well-stocked and much needed refreshments which helped keep everyone hydrated.
