The South Downs National Park Authority is promoting responsible dog walking and hoping that dog owners will help their pets stay out of trouble.

The campaign recognises that ‘dogs will be dogs’ and that it’s in their nature to explore.

But, in order to keep them safe, it is recommended that dogs are put on leads whenever near livestock.

Even the friendliest pet can turn into a killer if natural instincts take over.

Sheep can drop dead from shock and pregnant ewes can abort their young if scared.

If someone dumps your waste illegally, the Council warns, you could be fined up to £400.

EHDC runs a bulky waste collection service and also has a list of approved carriers.

As part of a wider 'Dark Skies Festival', experts from the South Downs National Park Authority were on hand to point out all the constellations in a perfectly clear night sky.

The National Park's 'Dark Skies' officer, Dan Oakley, explained how Buriton sits in a crucial location in the new 'International Dark Skies Reserve': one of only eleven such reserves in the whole world.

Less than 10% of the UK population can see the beauty of a natural night sky full of stars and the south-east of England is the worst area of all.

On Friday 27^th January there was a burglary in Kiln Lane when thieves forced open the front door in daylight during the morning. The reference number is 44170034175.

On Tuesday 31^st January the burglary was at an address in North Lane. The perpetrators gained access by forcing a lounge window open between 7.45am and 4pm. The reference number for any information in relation to this incident is 44170039618.
