Buriton Village Show

This summer we aim to hold a show as near to normal as the pandemic permits.

It is planned to spread this year's show across two venues - to try to avoid big crowds and help with Covid safety measures.

As well as the usual venues on the Recreation Ground and in the Village Hall, there will also be displays of show entries in the Manor Barn.

There will also be an  exciting range of activities on the recreation ground, including wildlife (mini-beast) safaris, children’s races, the round the Rec race and the egg tossing challenge.

Among the familiar range of prizes to be won is a new one – the Tom Munday Trophy, in fond memory of one of our best-loved and prolific exhibitors, awarded for the best combination of any three classes of vegetable.

Entries night: Taking part couldn’t be easier - decide what classes you fancy entering for, fill in the entries form distributed with the June edition of the parish magazine, and bring it along to the village hall on the Tuesday before the show, 3rd August, 6pm-8.30pm.

The theme of this year’s show will be pollinators – in step with the exciting project Buriton is hosting, aimed at encouraging us all to take steps to promote bees and all the other insects, which make the vital contribution to our ecology of pollinating the plants around us. Look out for all sorts of bug-tastic entry classes in the horticultural and craft show.

Naturally we’ll follow any covid safety measures deemed necessary at the time. We anticipate a one-way system around the village hall, with 2 metre distancing and hand sanitiser readily available. The organising committee asks that contributors and visitors respect whatever precautions we need to put in place.

It takes a lot of volunteer effort to put this production on. If you fancy joining the crew, please contact Buzz Cousins (contact details below).

Plans are also in place for the regular Open Gardens event the following afternoon, on Sunday 8th August. This popular event gives you the chance to wander around and see how some of our more talented gardeners get the best results locally.
