An evening of short talks about local involvement in the First World War

A hundred years ago people in Buriton were hearing about the largest battle in naval history and about the bloodiest day ever for the British Army.

There were brave men from Buriton taking part in both - and sadly some lost their lives at sea and on land.

The naval battle of Jutland and the start of the battle of the Somme were both significant parts of World War One - and local research is now able to tell the story of both these events through the eyes of some of the brave boys from Buriton.

This evening of short talks will explain the build-up to both these events and the varied roles played by Buriton men: a fascinating insight into important aspects of the First World War.

There will also be help and advice for anyone wishing to conduct their own research into the war as well as ideas about places to stay and visit in France and Flanders.

The talks begin at 7.30pm in Buriton Village Hall.

Admission is free with donations at the end going to good causes.

Anyone is welcome.
