Climate and Nature

Tweak of the Month – for March

Ideas towards living more sustainably and saving some money

Buriton’s Pollinator, Nature and Climate Care groups are in contact with other local groups including villages between Petersfield and Midhurst who are encouraging people to join them by taking a step or two towards living more sustainably, and maybe saving some money, by giving their ‘Tweak of the Month’ a try.

The Tweak of the Month for March 2023 is about compost – with advice about starting your own compost heap.

The ideas provided are great for plants, good for the pocket and reduce waste sent to landfill.

Gardening for nature and the climate

Inspirational talk in the village hall

Over 40 people learnt valuable lessons from Melanie Oxley’s talk in March 2023.

The talk described effects of climate change and other human impacts on the natural world; explained why our gardens are important for climate change resilience and for biodiversity; and helped everyone build resilience into the way we look after our gardens.

Buriton’s special B-earth day

The theme of the community’s “B-earth Day” event is all about nature, wildlife, pollinators and climate issues in the parish.

There’ll be a nature-themed fancy dress competition, a mini-beast safari, art activities, face-painting, displays from Buriton school and much more.

Climate and Nature

It is realised that while Covid-19 has shaken us all, threats posed by global warming and the crises affecting nature have not gone away.

Major scientific reports show that human activity is changing the climate in unprecedented and sometimes irreversible ways. Reports warn of increasingly extreme heatwaves, droughts and flooding, described as a “code red for humanity”.
