Buriton Village Association
A talk by Paul Martin that explains 'what he does', how he does it and what his sources of inspiration are.
As well as being one of Buriton’s movers and shakers, Paul Martin is a hugely talented designer with a portfolio of award-winning local, national and international work. He’s also witty, entertaining and very approachable.
Award winning author's talk in Buriton takes place in black-out conditions.
A power-cut, pitching the whole of the village into darkness, couldn’t stop Michelle Magorian enthralling residents and visitors with readings and insights into her best-selling novel Goodnight Mister Tom in the village hall in February.
Cloudy skies meant that Buriton's innovative star-gazing party had to stay indoors. But experts from Hants Astro turned St Mary's church into a mini-planetarium for the evening and engaged the audience with images projected onto the walls and ceiling - and, with the help of local children, demonstrated the expanse of the solar system by using fruit!
Over 70 people turned out on a chilly November evening and learnt a lot about our night skies and the solar system from David Woods and colleagues from the Hants Astro Group. There were opportunities to learn about some of the large mobile telescopes owned by members of the group, too.
The experts explained what a fantastic place Buriton can be – after dark.
A special chance to see wonderful details on the Moon - and to be amazed by the beauty of Orion's Sword. Experts from local astronomical groups will be bringing their telescopes to Buriton on Saturday 17 November - and giving people an opportunity to look and learn.
Starting at 5.30pm in St Mary’s Church, the idea is to use the building as an indoor ‘planetarium’ before everyone goes outside to use telescopes.
Experts will start the evening by giving a short talk in the church: the solar system in fruit.
We are extremely fortunate, in this Diamond Jubilee year, to have the Royal Correspondent of one of our National Newspapers living in the parish. At the autumn meeting of the Buriton Village Association, Richard Palmer will give an insight into his work - and a 'behind the scenes' look at many of the Royal events taking place during 2012.
About 80 people packed into Buriton Village Hall on Monday 5th December to listen to best-selling thriller writer Graham Hurley.
His informal and entertaining talk held everybody spellbound with people hanging onto his every word in the same way as his readers are gripped by his page-turners.
The Buriton Village Association, formed in the early 1970s, has three broad aims:
(1) looking after the interests of the area - its residents and its environment (often in conjunction with the Parish Council)
(2) researching and recording the local history of the parish
