CORONA VIRUS - CAN YOU HELP?

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO HELP WITH SHOPPING etc

Buriton Parish Council, the Neighbourcare Group and St Mary’s church are combining forces to help our older residents, the vulnerable and those who are self-isolating.

The Neighbourcare Group already has a small but invaluable team of volunteers – BUT WE NEED MORE.

CAN YOU HELP BY  getting shopping, prescriptions or just offering a friendly phone call?

Spring Clean litter-picking morning: Saturday 22nd February

It's amazing how much litter accumulates along our lanes and hedgerows - and how untidy it can make the parish look.

Come and lend a hand on this 'spring clean' Saturday - even just an hour will be a great help …

Please bring gloves and other equipment if you can, and report to 24 Heatherfield (near the Village Inn) where Adam and Hannah will sort you out with a high viz waistcoat and details of where to pick.

Who will call on you today? Beware doorstep criminals.

What would you do if one of these people called on you at home?

Doorstep criminals will use excuses to enter your home to steal, or charge inflated prices for “repairs”.

Common excuses include:

  • Energy suppliers, “water board” or council needs to have access to your house
  • Youths have lost a dog, a ball, need to make a telephone call, or need a glass of water
  • A plain clothes police officer needs to talk to you about a crime
  • Builder says he was passing and noticed your roof or garden needs work.

The Police provide the following advice:

Extra hands help tidy the Links

Villagers joined other volunteers to cut back brambles and other growth on local footpath

Volunteers from Hampshire County Council’s Rights of Way Team and the South Downs National Park Authority came to Buriton on Monday 30 September and reinstated the route of the Hangers Way footpath through our lovely ‘Links’ valley.

In places they were faced with walls of overgrown brambles but they had brought powerful brush-cutters, hedge-cutters and other tools with them – as well as energy and enthusiasm.
