Hampshire County Council information about local road closure

Work will affect the B2416 between Petersfield and South Harting

The B2416 (Sussex Road) between Petersfield and South Harting will be closed just to the east of where it is joined by North Lane / Nursted Lane from Buriton to allow work to overhead cables.

It is expected that the closure will be required for 5 days at some point during September, October or November.

The alternative route will be via Heath Road East and Pulens Lane to join the A272 to Rogate and then via Nywood to South Harting.

Pedestrian access and vehicular access to affected properties will be maintained.

More ash dieback identified in Buriton

An early challenge for the new Parish Council is some unexpected expenditure to address ash die-back in a number of trees.

The Parish Council took the wise step of getting a professional examination of trees on or near Council-owned land and although none appear to represent any imminent danger it is considered sensible to undertake some work during the current financial year and some thereafter.

Parish Council Vacancies – might you be interested?

Would you like to be involved in your local community?

The elections in May resulted in only six people on Buriton Parish Council – which means that there are three vacancies. Might you be interested!?

You do not need to have any particular skills or experience – just a passion to make a difference in the parish, including Weston.

Meetings are held every two months in the evening, although there may be additional evening meetings in-between.

The vacancies will be filled by co-option and will be considered at a Parish Council meeting to be held on Monday 29th July 2019.

Dog poo problems again?

All the District Council’s litter bins around the village can be used for bags of dog poo.

The amount of dog mess around the village seems to be increasing again and is spoiling things for young children.

The District Council reminds residents and visitors that dog waste can be put into any of its bins as long as it is properly sealed in a bag.

The Council also reminds everyone that it is an offence not clean up after your dog and that Fines and Fixed Penalty Notices can be issued.

Community litter-pick transforms the look of the village

Thanks to dozens of volunteers on Saturday 23 February, bags and bags of litter and rubbish were collected so that our lanes and hedgerows now look tidy again.

Thank you to everyone who took part - and thanks also to East Hampshire District Council who took away all the rubbish and also made Greenway Lane look tidy again.

Please don’t drop any litter anywhere – and discourage others from doing so…

Village Inn for sale

Parish Council seeks views from interested parties

The Parish Council has been informed that the owners of the Village Inn have advised East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) of their intention to sell the business and premises.

Some years ago the Parish Council successfully applied to EHDC so that both the village pubs are now listed as ‘Assets of Community Value’ (ACV). This status means that the community gets an opportunity to consider making a bid for the asset.

Buriton Parish Council needs a new part-time Clerk

An enthusiastic and skilled administrator is required to support the Council in this vital role - an opportunity to be involved in local issues and to work largely from home.

Could that be you? Or somebody that you know?

On average the role involves about 6 hours per week and the rate of pay is up to £12.30 / hour (depending on experience).

Applicants will need good admin and book-keeping skills and strong interpersonal skills.

Previous knowledge/experience of the work and role of local Councils is desirable and an interest in local affairs is essential.
