Special Wildlife Award

Di Mitchell was awarded an Outstanding Contribution Award in September

Bones Lane resident Di Mitchell has been hailed as a nature superhero for 30 years of dedicated work looking after Buriton’s wonderful Coulters Dean Nature Reserve.

The site is perhaps best known for its range of orchids and butterflies, but Di’s long-standing commitment has also encouraged a very rich variety of species with swathes of Cowslips and Primroses, followed by 12 species of orchids and a range of other lovely chalk flowers including Round Headed Rampions, Scabiouses and many more – as well as all the other wildlife that can be seen, too.

Buriton Christmas Market

A wonderful festive tradition

In St Mary’s Church from 1pm until 4pm.

The annual Christmas Market provides opportunities to stock up on Christmas goodies made by local crafters while local musicians and children from Buriton School add to the festive atmosphere through music and carols.

As usual, the Mobile Post Office will also be there so it’s a great opportunity to post those Christmas cards and parcels early!

The new book swap

Old High Street phone box transformed for a new role

The Buriton Book Swap provides an easy way for people to exchange books, find some different books and obtain a new book to read without having to pay.

It’s for all the community to enjoy: feel free to take a book and leave one of your own.

The only other instructions are: please leave it tidy and if the shelves are full, please don’t leave any additional books.

For any questions, problems or suggestions please email: buritonbookswap@gmail.com

Dark Skies Festival

Buriton is a special place in the South Downs International Dark Skies Reserve

Buriton is one of only a handful of ‘Dark Skies Discovery Sites’ in the National Park – which is why everyone is encouraged to minimise unnecessary external lighting and ensure that any lights only send light downwards (not up or out).

The South Downs National Park's Dark Skies Festival starts on Saturday 4 February and runs through to Friday 17 February

The festival will feature a host of events including nocturnal wildlife walks and stargazing parties.
