Community litter-picking morning: Saturday 19 March (anytime from 9.30am)

Saturday, 19 March

It’s amazing how much litter accumulates along our lanes and hedgerows - and how untidy it can make the parish look.

The Covid pandemic prevented our usual ‘Spring-clean Saturday’ last year – but it returns to our calendars in 2022, hosted again by Adam and Hannah Griffiths (and family!)

Come and lend a hand (even just an hour will be a great help).

Please bring gloves and other equipment if you can, and report to 24 Heatherfield where Adam and Hannah will sort you out with a high viz waistcoat and details of where to pick.

Updates about some significant planning applications

A new ‘greenfield’ application and an update about telecoms masts

A relatively large planning application has recently been submitted by ‘Re-Charge One’ to the National Park Planning Authority to develop a greenfield site near the Greenway Lane roundabout. The proposal contains up to 60 holiday lodges, a re-charge centre for electric vehicles and spaces for shops and cafes (with internal roads and about 125 parking spaces). Details are on the SDNPA website (https://planningpublicaccess.southdowns.gov.uk/online-applications/) with the reference SDNP/21/06431/FUL.

Successful Christmas Tree Recycling

Money raised for new trees in the parish

Thanks to Parish Tree Warden Matt Marriott, £135 was raised on January 8th to help buy more new trees for the parish.

Despite appalling wet weather the novel scheme attracted a steady flow of parishioners.

The initiative, which is part of the community’s wider work to help nature, also attracted interest from local radio stations. Coverage by Shine Radio can be heard here.

Disposing of your Christmas Tree – for a very good cause

New trees for old!!

Local tree surgeon and parish Tree Warden Matt Marriott is offering to chip and dispose of parishioners’ Christmas trees on Saturday 8th January from 9.30 to 11am at the pond car park.

There will be a small charge of £2 per tree with all the money collected going to supplying and planting new trees in the parish.

It is important that all lights decorations and metal/plastic base fixings are removed to avoid damage to the chipper.
