Buriton's day of activities to mark VE Day: POSTPONED

2020 sees the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the government has arranged for a special Bank Holiday weekend: May 8th-10th.

A group of parishioners (with representatives from the church, the school, both pubs, the bell-ringers, the parish council and other organisations) had been arranging a series of activities and events in Buriton on Saturday 9th May – BUT ALL PLANS HAVE NOW BEEN POSTPONED.

At 11am it had been hoped that as many parishioners as possible would gather outside the church for a huge photograph of the entire community – as taken in the past on other similar occasions.

Fraudsters targeting elderly people in Buriton

Please help

The Police have said that between 7th and 8th of January 2020 two elderly residents of Buriton and East Meon have been targeted by fraudsters purporting to be from the Police.

This Scam is known as “Courier Fraud” and comes in various forms.

Essentially, the Victim is contacted by someone purporting to be a Police Officer and they are informed that Police have identified an issue with their account or someone has been arrested using a cloned bank card for their account or that there is a corrupt member of staff at their Bank.

Can you help to clear the Links?

Extra hands welcomed

Volunteers from the South Downs National Park Authority and from Hampshire County Council’s Rights of Way Team are coming to Buriton on Monday 30 September – and they’d welcome a few extra pairs of hands.

Can you help?

They will be cutting back brambles and other growth which is gradually taking over the route of the Hangers Way footpath through our lovely ‘Links’ valley.

They will be bringing a number of people who are trained to operate brush-cutters and hedge-cutters - and they'll be bringing other tools, too.

Buriton Nursery School – opening soon

Buriton’s new “Dottie Tots” Nursery School is finalising all its Ofsted requirements and will be opening very soon.

The organisers, who already operate a successful Nursery School elsewhere in the district, will be offering “exceptional Early Years Education and Care for 2, 3 and 4 year old children.”

The new Nursery School plans to be open from 8am to 6pm for 48 weeks of the year – and funded places are available.

More details are available via the Dottie Tots website (www.dottietots.co.uk) or via Karen Burrows: 07872 040 614 or hello@dottietots.co.uk

‘Silent Soldier Trail’ brings praise from near and far

Buriton’s Silhouette Soldiers were relocated for a final farewell around the war memorial.

Elaine Bray’s thought-provoking and informative initiative attracted interest and praise from near and far – and raised about £250 for the Royal British Legion.

The Trail was featured as one of the weather pictures on BBC TV’s South Today and Elaine was also interviewed on Radio Solent. She said that her “faith in humanity had been restored as not one of the soldiers was damaged by anyone; only the weather having done its worst to them.”

Soldiers around the parish …

Part of the community’s activities to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

38 ‘Silent Soldiers’ figures have been installed – each with the name of one of the brave men who gave their lives during that conflict.

The ‘Silent Soldiers’ have been located close to where each of the men lived or worked – and they now form a trail which, it is hoped, parishioners will follow.

Details (and an entry form) are available from the Five Bells – with all donations being passed to the Royal British Legion.
